Wood pellets are a standardized form of biomass. The pelleting process converts dry sawdust into rollers 6 to 8 mm in diameter and 10 to 30 mm long by compression alone. The pellets are very dense and have a very low moisture content (below 10%). This allows very high combustion efficiencies. Wood pellets are mostly used in modern biomass stoves for heating residential buildings and in power plants for electricity production as a substitute for coal.
