ACIES BIO is a biotechnology research SME, established in 2006 and active primarily in the field of pharmaceutical, environmental and food biotechnology. The key areas of research are microbiology and metabolic and biosynthetic engineering of secondary metabolite production, yield improvement and bioprocess development, as well as genetic / metabolic engineering of microbial strains, aided by systems biology approaches of genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics. ACIES BIO has an established track record of strain improvement and process development collaborations with leading international pharmaceutical and food companies in Europe and Asia, a number of smaller biotech companies and academic collaborators. ACIES BIO was recognized for its excellence and was named Slovenian Start-up of the year in 2008, and is a co-founding member of the Slovenian Center of Excellence in the field of life-sciences (CIPKEBIP, 2009) and the Slovenian Competence Center in the Food and Health sector (KCBRIN,2011), supported by the Slovenian Ministry of Education.
